See the Light pt.2: This is Jesus

This week we are continuing the “See the Light” series taught by Pastor Jabin Chavez of City Light Church Las Vegas that we started last week. All I have to say is that I am loving this series! Learning not fear or worry because Jesus has my back, my front, my future, my everything , because Jesus is everything is amazing. I hope you take something away from this message.

Isaiah 9:6 We don’t just call him God, we call him the names that were revealed to us in scripture. There is faith and power in that.

For unto us a CHILD IS BORN AND A SON IS GIVEN

This is the first clue of the coming messiah, he is telling us that Jesus is the child and son

The child speaks to his humanity but the son speaks to his deity

He is God but he is man

Philippians 2:6-7 6 Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

7 rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness.

  • Jesus was God and he took on an earth suit for us, one day we will behold him, see him, and hold him.  One day we will see the scars. He became a man and forever chose to restrict himself to a body for us.

John 1:1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  • The word became flesh.

Jesus understands our weakness because he is man but he can change us because he is God.

  • Jesus was hungry but he’s also the bread of life.

    Hebrews 5

  • Jesus had to learn to suffer and pray and call upon God so he could answer our prayers in his name.

  • Jesus felt death, so then he beat death because a he’s fully man and fully God.

Hebrews 4:15 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

Acts 10:38 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

There is power in Jesus.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, & forever

Four characteristics of Jesus

1. Jesus is our counselor

  • The reason people can’t get anything Sunday-Sunday is because they don’t get anything done spiritually Monday-Saturday

Not every conversation with Jesus should be about getting an answer.

  • We miss the joy with Jesus because we only go to him when we need something.

  • You don’t try counseling and you don’t try Jesus, you commit to him.

One word from God can change your whole life (sustaining words)

  • Bible: God will give you a prophesy over your life

John 10:27 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Isaiah 30:21 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

  • Stop making big decisions on your own and learn how to make little decisions with Jesus, if you can learn to walk with him in little things big things won’t be big anymore,

  • The Holy Spirit whispers

  • God speaks today how he’s always spoken, by the still small whisper of the Holy Spirit, he didn’t change just because our world did.

  • In order to hear the voice of God we have to get quiet, get in his presence, and be still

  • How does God speak? Through his word. So if you hear anything that doesn’t line up with the word it’s not God

  • If you hear the still small voice of the Holy Spirit it will line up with the word.

  • God speaks through the wisdom of a trusted voice, a pastor, godly friends

James 1:5 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

  • Stop acting like you know what you’re supposed to do, stop faking it til you make it

  • Ask for wisdom

2. Jesus is our strength

Strength = Mighty God

  • God is strong and he wants to strengthen us.

Isaiah 4:20

God is strong enough to be strong on his own and give us strength too

  • God is everlasting love

Psalm 103

  • It’s not a sin to be faint, just go back to the source of your strength.

Jesus is power

3. Jesus is our identity

  • Jesus is everlasting, he doesn’t have a beginning point or an end point.

  • Jesus is alpha and omega .

  • Jesus is not inconsistent, he won’t give up on you even if you give up on him.

Jesus will outlast you

  • He’s an everlasting father

Say this:

I am not what I have,

what I do,

my worst moment,

my best moment,

what other people think of me,

I am a child of God

4.Jesus is our peace

Peace means ruler

  • Jesus will fight for your peace you just have to agree with it.

  • Jesus is the prince of peace

  • Jesus is violent about our peace. He will make war on the things that are trying to steal our peace.

Walk in peace

Isaiah 26:3 3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

No trust, No peace

  • Peace is a trust issue

  • We’re saying we need peace, God is saying he needs trust.

  • Perfect Peace

Psalm 31:14 4 But I trust in you, Lord;

I say, “You are my God.”

  • What you say will effect your peace!

Prayer:

Lord, I trust you,

you are my God,

peace is protected by your confession

and truth must spoken

Guard your mouth

John 14:27 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

  • Don’t let you peace be troubled, don’t let your heart lead you.

Jesus is peace
